Research Workshop
ITTE is running a one-day workshop for recently appointed ICT tutors in the UK who wish to find out more about conducting and publishing research.
Workshop Aims
- To develop vague ideas about research into more systematic plans
- To gain awareness of a variety of approaches to designing research projects and the issues involved
- To understand the different types of publishing outlet and the styles of writing for them
Workshop Tutor
Dr Steve Kennewell of Swansea Metropolitan University, who is a successful researcher and author of several articles and books on ICT in education, will run the workshop. He is also editor of ITTE’s own journal, Teaching, Pedagogy and Education.
Who is eligible?
Priority will be given to UK-based ICT tutors within the first three years of their first appointment in initial teacher education, but those in their fourth or fifth year will be considered if space is available. There are twelve places available on a first come, first served basis.
Where and when?
The workshop will take place on Tuesday 27th April 2010, registration and refreshments from 10:00, the workshop will start at 10:30 and finish at 16:00. A buffet lunch will be provided. The emphasis will be on practical activity so delegates should bring a laptop to work on. Materials and a request for further information about research interests and concerns will be sent to successful applicants and responses will be used by the course tutor to fine-tune workshop planning. In addition, all delegates will be asked to identify a topic or activity they would like to research that they could use as a focus for workshop activities. There is no requirement to continue to research that topic after the workshop.
Requirements
Following the workshop, all delegates are required to publish an article about their ICT research in the ITTE Newsletter or to present a paper at the ITTE Annual Conference or Research Seminar. It is expected that delegates will work towards having an article published in a recognised educational journal. Delegates will also be asked to contribute to the evaluation of the workshop.
Follow-up support
Delegates will receive follow-up support from a research mentor and feedback on publication drafts from experienced reviewers. Research mentors are ITTE members with a successful track record of research and of having research articles published.
